Subclass

Overview

Leveling your character is only the beginning. A whole new class rewards your efforts!

At level 75, players can perform Mimir's Elixir quest and seek out the master for the available class of their choice to create an additional job class.

The only classes that don't mix are opposing Elf races, overlord and warsmith classes, or any similar classes. See the Available Classes page for more information about the class combinations that are available.

To begin your journey for a subclass, speak to Magister Ladd of the Ivory Tower.

Once your subclass has reached level 75, you are ready to start on the path to become a Noblesse.

Since the addition of Territory Wars you can become Noblesse through the Territory Manager NPC and that also makes it possible to add subclass without completing all the quests.

Details

When you finish Mimir's Elixir quest, you can go to each occupation grand master and select a subclass. If you select a subclass, level, and first ability value, the skills are changed to the character with a level 40 in the subclass. (Please note that in some cases you may not able to move due to weight restrictions when switching classes.)

You can freely switch the main class and subclass at level 75 through the village NPC.

If you increase one subclass to level 75, you can select up to two other subclasses. There is no time limit or number of times that you can switch classes.

When switching classes, buff state and symbols are not maintained. Your character's property, PvP/PK counter, information related to the clans and sieges, recommendation value and number of votes, friends list, party information, numeric value related to the Seven Signs, and quest information are retained. Warehouse and inventory are also shared.

When removing an existing subclass, you will choose the new subclass to replace the old one. The new subclass begins at level 40. If you are a Noblesse, you will remain a Noblesse when you replace an existing subclass.

Subclass Restrictions

If the race of your main class is Elf or Dark Elf, you may not select each other's class as a subclass, and no class may not select Overlord and Warsmith as a subclass. You may not select a similar class as the subclass. Please see this listfor more information about subclasses that are available for specific classes.

With the Goddess of Destruction update and the addition of 4th class more restrictions on subclass choices have been implemented. Now you cannot choose a subclass that will awaken into the same class as your current main class. Refer to patch notes for more information.

Noblesse and Heroes

Subclasses are connected to the Noblesse and Hero systems. You can begin your path to the Noblesse only when one or more subclasses reach level 75.

Subclass certification

Out of date - please refer to the GoD update notes for new information.

The types of skills that can be acquired by your main class differ depending on your specific subclass and subclass level.

  • Subclass Level 65 – One possible skill you can acquire: Common skill (increased attack and defense-related power)
  • Subclass Level 70 – One possible skill you can acquire: Common skill (increased attack and defense-related power)
  • Subclass Level 75 – Select one skill to acquire: Common 2nd stage skill (increased attack, defense power, physical critical chance, and magic casting speed) OR various special skills that are determined by your subclass
  • Subclass Level 80 – One possible skill you can acquire: Transformation skill that is determined by your subclass

Even if you delete your subclass, the corresponding acquired skill(s) will not be deleted. Your main class can acquire a maximum of 4 specialized skills for each subclass you have. If you have all three subclasses, you can acquire a total of 12 specialized skills.

While in your subclass state, go to your corresponding subclass master NPC and get your subclass ability certification.

Take the certification to the Avant-Garde NPC in the Ivory Tower to acquire the corresponding skill.

You can acquire the skill only while in your main class state. There is no main class level requirement to acquire these skills.

None of the subclass certification items you receive can be dropped, destroyed, exchanged, or stored in a warehouse.

The number of subclass skill certifications is restricted, so you must make your decision carefully. For example, if your first subclass receives a skill certification at level 65, even if you subsequently delete that subclass and raise a new first subclass to level 65, you cannot receive another skill certification for your first subclass at that level.

You must complete the More Than Meets the Eye transformation quest in order to receive the subclass certification and to properly acquire the skill as your main class.

The special subclass-determined skills you can acquire are as follows:

Skill Reset

The Avant-Garde NPC in the Ivory Tower can remove the special main-class skills that you got via your subclass(es). The cost to do this is 10,000,000 Adena.

Note: This removes all previously learned certified skills and removes all certified skill-related unused items from your inventory. If you have paid to have your subclass certification skills removed, you must return to your subclass master(s) to receive your skill certification items again.

Updates

Goddess of Destruction

Characters can now make a dual class out of one of their existing subclasses. While subclasses have a level cap of 80, a dual class does not have this restriction: It can be raised to level 99 and it can Awaken through a fourth class transfer. The Dual Class ability is obtained by completing the Split Destiny quest. The list of subclasses that a character can choose has changed. A character cannot choose a subclass that would Awaken as the same class that the character's main class would. For example, Archmage, Soultaker, Mystic Muse, Storm Screamer, and Soul Hound all Awaken as a Feoh Wizard. Therefore, a character who is an Archmage cannot select a subclass from any of the other four classes listed.

Characters can now switch between their main class, subclass, and dual class without having to speak to an NPC. To switch, go to the Character Status window and find the new buttons at the top right that represent the different classes. Click a button to switch. Characters can switch classes anywhere except in these instanced dungeons: the Teredor raid, Fortuna, Prison of Darkness, Crystal Caverns, Shilen’s Altar, the Hall of the Abyss, and the Seize Your Destiny quest instance.

A new Subclass NPC, Raina has been added in Talking Island Village. Raina can assist characters in creating or resetting their subclasses. Previous NPC functions for changing subclasses have been removed.

Every time a character switches classes, the Identity Crisis debuff is applied. The debuff lasts 15 seconds, during which time the character’s combat abilities are reduced and the character cannot change classes, use skills, or use items other than potions.

Upon the launch of the Goddess of Destruction update, characters with one or more subclasses will receive a Class Change Certificate for each of their subclasses. Using the Class Change Certificate will instantly change the character's current subclass to a desired subclass of the same level and having all skills relevant to that level. However, skill enchantments from the previous subclass will be lost.

At the time of the Goddess of Destruction update, all Subclass Certification skills will be reset, and the item Certificate – Subclass will be removed from the game. Subclass skills will now be certified by speaking with the new Subclass Certifier NPC, Tatum, in Talking Island Village. Previous Subclass Certification functions of Grand Master NPCs will be removed.

A character’s main class and subclass can now both receive the effects of Subclass Certification skills. All existing Subclass Certification skills have been replaced by the following skills:

   Sub - P. Atk./M. Atk. Increase
   Sub - P. Def./M. Def. Increase
Sub - Atk. Spd./Casting Spd. Increase
   Sub - Critical Damage Increase
Sub - Physical Attribute Resistance Increase
Sub - Mental Attribute Resistance Increase
   Sub - Physical Ability Increase
Sub - MP Consumption/Reuse Time Decrease
